On Caroling

"Maybe if we sing Michael Jackson, they'll open their doors.  Then we can pull the old bait-'n'-switch and spring Silent Night on them."

I'm not sure I'm a fan of Christmas caroling as an opportunity to hand people a postcard inviting them to the Christmas Eve service, like my church did tonight.  I think if I were the non-believing homeowner I'd be a little offended.

Maybe offending people is what it takes to get their attention.  I would think that in the "Bible belt" of Texas it would be impossible to grow up without hearing the gospel (definition: good news) but on the other hand it's easy to ignore an idea that makes you feel uncomfortable when you think about it.

Jesus is patently offensive to many people, and I'm still trying to wrap my mind around that.
